Drum and bass has always been one of those genres that sits in the back and comes out only when called upon to be in the limelight. That is a shame because I think the genre has a lot more to prove than just being a drum-influenced trance variant. One of the artist to revive the genre is Netsky. Netsky, by himself, is a talented drum and bass producer who really knows how to answer to the call of being creative with his music and production. Below is his latest track, Can't Stop, that he collaborated with Metric on which also features the vocals of Stealth.
The track really moves me and has emotion to it. A lot of drum and bass gets lost in crazy drum patterns which is cool but after a three hour set I just want to talk a bottle of ibuprofen and go to bed. Netsky, Metric, and Stealth have a piece of gold on their hands and I am excited to see more come from it. Cop the free download of Can't Stop here.
UK Tour and Netsky Live
Netsky is also breaking barriers with his live production. On DJ Tech Tools I have commented many times about live production within electronic music. To be frank, two CDJs and a mixer is getting stale because so often the mix producers are doing can be replicated easily by any moderately skilled DJ. Artists such as DJ Enferno have constructed live sets that blend DJing and performance. Netsky went one step further with Netsky Live where he actually performs with a live band.
Netsky’s live show, originally unveiled at London’s Brixton Academy in 2012, continues to grow and push the boundaries that define how electronic music can be produced and experienced live. A ground breaking and critically acclaimed show sees him joined on stage by a full live band, coupled with epic production and visuals. After a sell out U.K. tour last month, NETSKY brought his live show across the pond to the U.S to kick off a huge 22 date live tour. Since the tour kicked off November 21 in Seattle, it has been garnering rave reviews with local media. Joining Netsky who helms keys and programming, are Michael Schack on drums, Babel on keys and guest vocalist Billie along with hypeman Script MC. As Netsky Live they perform a mixture of fan favorites as well as brand new material from his forthcoming third studio album for Ultra Music due early next year.
I love seeing Netsky break down the boundaries define his own personal live production. Don't get me wrong, producing music is really challenging! However, I am getting tired of just seeing a guy jump around stage for two hours. I know if I was selling out venues, I would want to give my fans an experience. If you are as interested as me, you can try to catch a Netsky Live show before the band leaves the US.
